Herefordshire Walking Festival 2009

13th - 21st June, 2009

Welcome to the 2009 Herefordshire Walking Festival - nine days of great opportunities to explore this most beautiful county.

Looking across the Valley

The featured walk this year is the Mortimer Trail, walked over three days of the first weekend (13-15th June) from Kington to Ludlow while ‘Every Inch of the Way' covers the Trail from Ludlow to Kington in a series of nine loop walks, one for each day of the Festival. Upper Monnow - Past, Present and Future is the theme for the weekend of 19th - 21st June, combining history from a knowledgeable local historian, with unspoiled rural landscape and delicious home-produced food. Learn from the experts on butterflies and birdwatching, archaeology, local lore, history of the market towns and a very special opportunity to compose better pictures with the help of travel photographer, Nick Meers.

Llamas at King Street Farm

Take the farmhouse cider cellars and orchard tour, a short walk around the southern tip of the Malverns before repairing to an award winning ice-cream factory or just enjoy the cream teas, pub lunches or farmhouse suppers using local produce that accompany many of the walks during the nine days.

Family walks are organised at the weekends and offer some very special treats - the archaeologists have organised a walk to introduce children and their families to the medieval history of Herefordshire - or take a friendly llama for a walk around the Golden Valley, ‘Wild Play' on Ewyas Harold Common or a family walk for toddlers upwards in the grounds of the National Trust's Brockhampton Estate.

All in all, what better way is there to explore the hidden beauty of the best of English countryside in the care and company of friends.
